Candidate Profile:

Arlene Thurston:

Thank you—I truly appreciate the nomination and the opportunity to continue serving NevPANA. I have been a nurse since 1989 and became CAPA certified in 2020. After spending 20 years in surgical orthopedics, I was searching for a new nursing specialty and discovered perianesthesia nursing in 2016. It has been one of the best career decisions I’ve ever made.

I’ve grown exponentially as a pre-op nurse and deeply value the ongoing professional education, development, and involvement this specialty offers. Caring for patients undergoing surgeries, procedures, and anesthesia—oft

en during some of the most stressful and traumatic moments of their lives—has been both rewarding and gratifying.

For the past three years, I’ve served as an Item Writer and Reviewer for the American Board of Perianesthesia Nursing Certification for the CAPA examination. I love NevPANA for its camaraderie, support, and encouragement, as well as its commitment to continuing education.
