In memory of Ruth Avila RN, CAPA, CLNC, CJCP, CPHQ
It is with great sorrow our NevPANA Board shares news of the loss of our beloved friend and colleague Ruth Avila. Ruth was a member of our Perianesthesia community for more than a decade, and the only thing surpassing her love of nursing and patient care was love for her family.
Ruth chose to achieve excellence in any nursing specialty that she was a part of and never approached a challenge with anything less than her full dedication. After joining the PACU team at Renown South Meadows, she immediately started gaining the knowledge and skills that she needed to achieve her CAPA certification.
Ruth was known for her excellent clinical skills, patient advocacy, fiery enthusiasm, and her love of the color red. There wasn’t a surgeon or anesthesiologist that she wouldn’t go toe to toe with to be her patient’s advocate.
Ruth’s passion for Perianesthesia nursing didn’t stop at the end of her shift, in the hospital, or the community. Her desire to continue learning, to share with others, and to pay it forward was unstoppable. These qualities were a perfect combination to support NevPANA and its members.
Ruth served for 4 years on the NevPANA Board as Northern Member-at-Large. She promoted the benefits of ASPAN membership and education to all Perianesthesia nurses.
Ruth attended local and national Perianesthesia nursing conferences. She was a speaker at several NevPANA education conferences and also presented at the ASPAN National Perianesthesia Nursing Conference in 2014 and 2015.
Nursing lost one of its greats this month, and we wish our Red Woman Ruth a well-earned rest until we meet again.
